Welcome to the Mountain Hawk Family Farm Moon, our matriarch nanny goat, and her kids, Mary & Leroy! We are so bless to have them added to the farm with Moon already in milk. It has been quite a learning curve with daily milking, banding Leroy (for castration), hoof trimming, rescuing Moon with her head & horns stuck through the fencing (she's got a horrible case of "the grass is greener" mentality) and working to improve Moon's health (she was quite thin when she arrived on the farm). They are as good for us as we are for them - Moon teaches us patience and the necessity of calm even while struggling to keep her dancing back hooves out of the milk pale and the kids are the best sort of comic relief possible! I consider it a huge triumph that Moon and I (Haven) have graduated to double hand milking. We've discovered the deliciousness of homemade goat yogurt and will be attempting goat cheeses & goat soap soon!
Also newly added to the Mountain Hawk Family farm are the Nubian-Boer doelings Fawn and Darling. They are young (born in June) but come close in size already to Moon's twins, Leroy and Mary, who are three months older. Their breeding will produce larger bucklines for meat from their Boer genetics and doelings that will produce quality milk from their Nubian genetics. They have adjusted well and make a sweet addition to Haven's goat herd.
